March 26th, 2020 – Matthew 11:20-24

This Is Not a FUN Reading

If you haven’t yet read our daily reading, please stop now and read it.

So, just a few days ago, Jesus had been talking about birds and flowers and being nice to people, and now he’s wearing the flaming red mantle of a prophet and pronouncing certain judgment on those who haven’t repented at his message!

Stop, Jesus! You’re Moving Too Fast!

If you don’t like Jesus the Prophet, and Jesus the Judge, then there’s no use finishing reading your Bible, because Revelation 19:11-16 will really make your blood boil.  In fact, don’t even finish reading Matthew, because Jesus is just getting warmed up.

You know the old scenario: you’re walking by your neighbor’s house and notice a fire burning out of control in his garage.  You know your friend is probably sleeping in his Lazy Boy in his living room.  What do you do?  Do you let the house burn down because you didn’t want to be rude and bang on your neighbor’s front door?

I know, this is all pretty intense stuff. Well, it’s where we are in our daily readings through the life of Christ. So, it is part of the life of Christ.  He didn’t water down his message, and neither should his followers water down theirs.

But what exactly is our message to be?  Jesus is our message.  Then one who taught love. He who warned of coming judgment. One who saw the whole message as being wrapped up in Himself.  About Him, Peter – full of the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:8) – said, “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”  (Acts 4:12 is an important verse, write it down or mark it somehow.)

Don’t take your eyes off Jesus. In him is our hope, our strength, and our salvation.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.  (Romans 8:1)
